Zambia Team Update, Saturday July 26th

It appears our first update, from the airport in Johannesburg, didn't make the trip (to this blog) but we are happy to report all 12 of us made it safely to Livingstone.  Even ALL of our luggage.  As we met Janet Sisco and Erin Ruark at the airport our team divided and headed our separate ways and began to settle in. 

 

The Construction team began our first day sharing devotional time with the Zimba Hospital staff then quickly dove in to our first SOS style home repair on hospital staff housing.  We quickly learned to improvise given the limited amount of materials on-hand.  After a day of some serious creative plumbing and a bit of frustration, we decided to head to the hardware store in Kolomo.  Drew and David were like kids in a candy store. It may have taken 3 hours out of the day but more than made up for it when they returned.  The good news is we bought enough to leave behind to help others when we are done. 

 

We did hear from the Orphanage team yesterday morning letting us know that things are going really well for them.  Abbye and Jennifer taught Firm Foundations to the women, Will and Alex taught the same to the men, while Hannah, Austin and Josh worked with the kids.  Hannah even reported that Bridgett, whom she met last year, came up and gave her a big hug on arrival.  

 

Today we head to Livingstone for a day of rest and recreation and will all spend the night at Global Samaritans, joining them for church on Sunday and an afternoon with the children at GSO.  Then we all head to Zimba for some more construction work and teaching in Mukawalatilia. 

 

Pray for the Construction team's time with Onisemus.  He has become our Zambian right-hand man for our work and has been a tremendous help.  God has him with us for a reason and we want to be sensitive to all that includes.
