Summer Interns Update
We just received this update from our missionary in Zambia:
On Thursday morning Jackie and Tyler received their "in-country" orientation. Alfred and Muumbe Kalembo discussed the Zambian culture teaching them how to greet others, how to pay respect to their elders and those in authority, and what to expect when eating in a Zambian home. Pastor Paul Banda explained the BTN (Bless the Nations) vision and the ministry Tyler would be participating in.
On Friday Jackie, Tyler and I drove to Jembo where Rev. Fred Cromer and his wife Carol graciously welcomed both of them. The Cromer’s son, Jonathon, is “in-country” and will be ministering at Jembo Secondary School with Jackie. Rev. Cromer gave both of them a tour of the PWC Bible College as well as the Secondary School. Dinner was a special treat as they were able to hear missionary stories from not only the Cromers but Dr. Barry Ross and his wife, Margaret. The Rosses have been involved in missions for most of their 49 years of marriage. They served for many years in Japan. They were able to give Jackie and Tyler wise counsel as they prepared for their individual ministries as well as consideration for future ministry.
On Saturday, Jackie and I drove Tyler to Pemba where we put him on a “blue bus” to Kolomo. Tyler was to meet Boyd Chikatula, Director of Bless the Nations. I had just received a text message from Boyd indicating that several people were receiving Christ during the previous night “crusade” and Tyler was raring to go. The drive to Kolomo was to take a 1 ½ hours and about the time he was to arrive, Jackie received a text message that he was “doing great!!!!” She stated that meant he either had arrived okay or had prayed with someone to receive Christ on the bus. I spoke to him briefly on Sunday and he had traveled to Livingstone where he and Boyd will be doing door to door evangelism with a short term mission team from the UK.
Tyler and Jackie have impressed everyone they have come in contact with. They show such enthusiasm for sharing the good news and their spiritual maturity is evident. They will truly bless the Zambians they interact with. I can’t wait to hear all that God had planned for both of them. It has been a blessing for me to receive them. Thank you for the honor.
