Team Russia - Officially Recovered from Jet-lag (Sort Of)
Hey folks,
Greetings from the motherland! I have yet to taste borscht, but we did stop at McDonalds in the Red Square. Helpful pair of facts to store away for later use: Pigeons love french fries, and Sasha is deathly afraid of pigeons. Also, Barack Obama was at St. Basil's Cathedral next to the Kremlin only moments before we arrived. Or so we are led to believe. After a few days of sightseeing and Vacation Bible School at the United Methodist Seminary in Moscow, we took the overnight train and arrived in Pskov around 7:30 this morning. For you folks at home, that would have been late Monday night. It's already close to midnight on Tuesday here, which means that I'm writing from the future. I won't say much for fear of a rip in the space-time continuum, but go ahead and bet on Michael Jackson's funeral being over the top. Anyway, Abbye and I found an internet cafe and thought we'd say thanks for the prayers and let you know what's coming up. We begin work with our sister church, the Pskov United Methodist Church in the morning, helping staff their youth camp. We all like Psvok much better than Moscow. It's a strange mix of its ancient medieval foundations and the remnant of failed socialist progress, covered with a thin layer of modern western capitalism. The language barrrier is our most difficult obstacle, but we're excited about the opportunities we'll have soon to sing cross-cultural hymns and reflect on familiar passages of Scripture while communicating fluently through the universal languages of love and hard work.
Paka!
