Hospitality and Russian Folk Music...
... are two things I (Abbye) will remember most, and I have a feeling that our team members will, too! There is a lot I could tell you, but lack of time and words only allow for so much.
Tonight we said goodbye to many of the wonderful people from Pskov UMC, those we are now sure are our Family. There were some tears and promises of letters and emails, but deep down there was joy that we'd met and spent good, good time together. The hospitality of this body of believers was incredible! Not only did we stay in host homes, but we always had 2 or 3 (and often more!) who accompanied us everywhere we went. They truly allowed for "life interrupted" during our time here, but for them, it was a delightful interruption. And we are grateful. For the meals, the translations, the laughter (and tolerance of our cheesy jokes), the Russian folk music, and much, much more.
In fact, the folk music was our "send-off" tonight, and it was wonderful! A small group of folks playing traditional instruments of Russian folk music were there sharing with us, and it was so great. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones to see a video of it (and of Josh dancing... but don't tell him I told you about it). We were also fed some good Russian food, much more than we could eat (which seems to be the norm around here).
We've shared in times of Bible study and small groups, exploring some of the foundational questions that we ask no matter what culture we are in (Why do we need the Church? Why do we need Jesus?) We've learned from our brothers and sisters here in Pskov how different faith journeys look but how redemption is for all, both in Russia and America (and beyond), and that this redemption is indeed beautiful.
We are off to St. Petersburg in the morning, leaving behind a host of Family whom we are forever connected to through our Lord, Jesus Christ, and our hearts are grateful.
Peace be with you...
