Livingstone (Zambia) Update
hey family!
ellen and i found an internet cafe that's pretty cheap! right now we are in a brand new shopping area-strip mall kind of a deal, and it's very nice. apparently they are trying to push tourism here to encourage people to come visit Victoria Falls and whatnot. At any rate, it's been very nice for us because the guest house we're staying at is extremely nice, and we've had great food. I haven't even really had native cuisine yet, but i will in these next couple of days when we work with neighborhood churches. Livingstone sort of has one main drag with a bunch of buildings. There are a fair number of paved roads, but as you branch out there are little dirt roads and little neighborhoods. Yesterday we went to the college for the first time. We took a tour, met with the principal and faculty, and then we got to give our talks. The students were divided into males and females, and each group respectively went to a different chapel. Ours went VERY well! the girls were attentive and taking notes. After my talk they also randomly asked to here me sing lol so i started out the first verse of amazing grace and they all came in and joined me in parts on the rest. It was quite a blessing to get to sing with and hear all their beautiful voices! afterwards we went and hung out with all the students outside because there was a soccer game. The college is a teaching college, and the students range from 18-33, but most are younger. They are training to teach preschool,primary, secondary, and community schools. They take all sorts of classes though, like art, languages, sciences, and whatnot. their facilities are very nice. Today we broke into 3 groups and met with local churches where we will be talking to youth on saturday, and attending church on sunday. I am with steve and margaret. This afternoon we are meeting with select classes at the college to talk, and we're going back a few more times this week to have a service with them. Also, a fantastic christian rapper named LeCrae came with us, and he is coming from Choma to give a concert for the college one night! The neighborhood churches are definately more impoverished, and when we met with their leaders earlier today, they wanted us to talk to the youth about aids because they have a significant problem with single and double parent orphans. They say that one of the challenges is that when students finish school, they have no place to get a job, so their idleness leads them to harmful activities. I'm having a wonderful time, and i love the group that i'm with! i can't wait to tell ya'll about everything else, and i'm trying to take lots of pictures! So far none of us have had an problems-medical or otherwise- so keep praying for us because it's working! I just want to share with you how great the Lordis because His presence is around the world! There are many wonderful Zambian Christians that are alive and working!
